Alcantara can spare a bullpen running on fumes

Red Sox resilience comes with a shorter starting leash

Suárez’s sinker, cutter and changeup can keep hitters off the barrel without relying on premium velocity. If the Marlins force long counts or put early traffic on the bases, however, the coaching staff may have to reach for relief before Alcantara does.
The Red Sox bullpen had a relatively light Sunday, with only Tayron Guerrero and Aroldis Chapman used behind the starter.
